What did they want?
The garden above the sandstone wall had been taken over by yakkas and agaves. Kylie wanted it cleared and turned back into something usable and attractive.
The problem was access. The sandstone wall cut the garden off from any vehicle or machinery access, which meant everything removed from the garden had to come out by hand along a restricted route.
Other contractors had looked at it and passed, but this was just another day in the office for us.
What we did?
We took the job on and worked out a practical way through it.
Over five tonnes of mature yakkas and agaves were removed by hand and carried out along the access route, along with the rest of the existing overgrowth.
From there, we prepared the garden beds for new plants.
Over the course of the project, our team:
- Removed 5T+ of overgrown yakkas and agaves.
- Cleared the existing garden by hand
- Transported removed vegetation and materials off-site
- Prepared the garden beds
- Installed new plants
- Applied new mulching
- Tidied and redefined the overall garden
We also cut in a new gravel footpath between the rear fence and the garden, so the space is reachable for Kylie and could be maintained – rather than just tidied up for now.
What were the challenges?
Aside from access to the area; removing 5 tonnes of mature plants under restricted conditions is significantly harder than doing the same on an open-access property.
We’re particularly proud of this one, because it demonstrates that our work isn’t just about installing plants. It’s also about finding practical solutions for difficult properties, and completing projects that require significant manual effort and problem solving for our clients.
